hello aviation friends!
I’m Amanda, and together with my partner Dean we have two wonderful children. The four of us especially enjoy spending time together both in the air, and at all the places our airplane can take us. Our main family ride is the Piper M600. There is nothing greater than sharing our life in aviation with our children and providing them with a sense of wonder and fun. Their experiences in general aviation, we hope, will contribute to a well rounded, well traveled individual as they grow.
I created “The Family Airplane” not to mean literally my family airplane but the concept of any family having one to call their own. Sort of like the family station wagon, but much faster! Our lives in aviation had to pivot once we had children, and as you may have noticed there are such few articles or information out there that address the questions that come up with family travel in small aircraft. I love writing, aviation photography, and flying with my kids so I figured I would combine all three things to hopefully create a go to blog space for this wonderful niche we are a part of. Thanks for checking it out!
MORE About OUR FAMILY
I first got the “aviation bug” in high school at a summer job with an aircraft finance company. I used to work on the customer database and really be in awe that there were people out there that owned their own airplane. I would have never dreamed that one day I would be one of those people. I went to school for business and knew no matter what I ended up doing that I wanted it to be related to aviation. I took flight lessons for a while but there came a point I had to focus spending money on finishing my degree. It took me a little while to realize that you can still be an impactful woman in aviation business, outside of the cockpit. (Plus I then met my very own personal pilot!) For years I worked in commercial aviation, and today operate an aviation business alongside Dean providing flying services to our community. We have two young children; Reese and Camden. We have an airstrip and hangar at our home so our children have been immersed in their own aviation wonderland (if you will) since they were born.
Our resident PIC Dad, Dean, is a professional pilot and entrepreneur, logging over 23,000 flight hours around the globe. He is very experienced in the process of aircraft acquisition and ownership.

I wanted to create a place for families in general aviation to find anything from tips on flying with kids, to fun destination ideas, to aircraft ownership information.
